The Heat Is On!

Summer has arrived so we have a little more time to pursue the things we love!  Yoga and Meditation produce neurochemicals that bring positive relaxed and positive mind states to lessen provoked anxiety ridden inner talk. So many “brain books” out there that really tell us Mindfulness practices in Yoga and Meditation give us continuing support in quality living. What’s really exciting is that Memory cells are able to grow (neurogenesis) when we are involved in brain builders like Yoga and Meditation.

Holding Our Space in Yoga Class!

Season’s Greetings to All the Yogis out there!!  I miss being with you in classes!   Next week, Jan. 3, Monday at 10 a.m. Yoga with Weights will be holding your space!  Or maybe you are a meditating Yogi, so Tuesday night is the class for you, Yoga and Meditation from 7:30-8:45 p.m.  Thursday night, 7:30-8:30 p.m. we stay steady to user friendly asana flows. We learn these by heart to encourage healthy sitting, standing, walking, bending and even lying down. Whatever part of your practice you are thinking about, do it!!  Maybe staring out the kitchen window and drawing your ribs back and down bringing the much needed relief to our “thinking shoulders”.

I attended a week long meditation retreat at the Forest Refuge in Barre, Mass. from Feb. 7-14.  This retreat practice is focused on learning deeper ways to build equanimity in the mind.  This weekend I will be teaching a 3 hour meditation workshop on Sat., Feb. 20, 2010 from 1-4 p.m. at Yoga Springs Studio. Good Time for Subtle Yoga while the Snow Falls-Postural Shifts that Relieve neck, shoulder, back and joint discomforts!

Since I last wrote about my new class Subtle Yoga, I have added a class on Monday night starting Jan.25-Mar. 1 from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.  I am trying to offer the class in morning and evening times to meet the varied schedules my students have.

Different titles speak to different interests in strength, ease of chronic discomfort and inner peace. My new title *Subtle Yoga* I hope conveys my commitment to teaching students small postural shifts that make in big difference in relieving neck, shoulder, back and even joint discomforts.

My teacher, Mary Sinclair will  begin morning classes of  “Subtle Yoga” from Feb. 3-Mar. 10 and Mar. 17-Apr. 21 at Yoga Springs Studio from 10-11:15 a.m. Please call the studio at (37 767 9300 to register, pre-pay for 6 classes is required.

Meanwhile the Healthy Posture Clinic is holding strong from 7:15-8:30 p.m. on Monday nights from Oct. 5-Nov. 30.  The Nov. 30 class is the big one!  We will be visited by my teacher, Mary Sinclair, certified Balance Yoga teacher.  She has taught a workshop for us in October.

Since June I attend Mary’s class at Yoga on High sudio in Columbus, Ohio on Thursday nights.  Please call me for information or interest in exploring these remarkable  simple and effective “balance” shifts that offers ease through all daily movements: bending, sitting (on line), walking, standing (in line!), even sleeping improves for many.

We will being reading _Mindfulness Meditation in Plain English_ by Bhante Gunaratana.  This book is a priceless personal guide to clarify the patience, consistency and many other tools to support one’s understanding. My teacher, Mary Sinclair, who inspired me to teach my Healthy Posture Clinic class Oct. 5-Nov. 23, 2009 is COMING to teach a workshop on Balance Basics: The Yoga of Your Everyday Life,  Saturday, Oct. 3, 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m.  The simple shifting of postural “holdings” in shoulders, neck, head and back can give remarkable relief when learned and practiced.  A great investment in staying well, doing any exercise better and looking trim and taller.

Mindfulness Awareness gives us simple practices to recreate more positive reactions to our personal thought stream. Google University is calling it (Mindfulness) Brain Exercises or ” a beneficial workout for the mind”.
